If you’re a bit of a gym fanatic, you probably have an established programme, macro count and routine in place. But what if you’ve got a long trip coming? How can you replicate all of this whilst you’re on the road? –

Truth be told you can never perfectly replicate your gym routine when you’re travelling and, in my humble opinion, you shouldn’t try.

If you’re exploring the best our planet has to offer you should have more on your mind than a morning dose of creatine or daily protein snack. –

Bodyweight.

By simply utilising your own weight you can get stronger, fitter, faster – as evidenced by Dancers, Rock Climbers and Sprinters. –

What routine to go for? It doesn’t need to be anything fancy. You can do Pull-ups, Sprints on the beach, Tabata Style exercise including Squats and Dips or joining in a game of football with the locals. The best part? You can do these exercises absolutely anywhere; a beach in Thailand, a park in New Zealand, Australian Outback it doesn’t matter.

Keeping Active:

Ultimately, travel shouldn’t be a sedentary activity. From Hiking to Cycling, exploring and adventure will always have the nice side effect of keeping you fit . At home the average person doesn’t walk to far each day but I’ve found it’s easy to break the 20km mark each day whilst discovering new places sometimes even going up to 50km including bikes and getting hopelessly lost.

Most Importantly – Food and Drink:

Your diet plays a huge part in how you look, act and feel. Sure if you’re on holiday you can treat yourself but stuffing yourself with burgers, beers and soft drinks every single day will leave you flat on energy, bloated and increase your body fat drastically. In my opinion food is the most rewarding part of travel! If you are seeking the right kind of regional food, made from fresh ingredients, you’ll find it pretty easy to eat cheap healthy meals wherever you are. –

You’re most likely going to want to drink alcohol on your trip, and that’s fine, enjoy yourself, but think about what calories you are consuming, rule of thumb always avoid sugary drinks.
