The winter climes are nearly among us and the clocks go back at the end of this month. With that in mind I thought I’d put together some winter tips to help you get out of bed on a cold dark morning and not turn into a hermit.👳🏼‍♂️

WINTER EATING – Various studies have suggested Melatonin (a hormone triggered by darkness) makes us feel sleepy, and can have a role in appetite. It is possible that this can account for increased hunger and appetite for sugary snacks and weight gain during these months. Actions to combat this – Hydrate with water, eat fibrous foods, create routine ( get to sleep early and wake up early) and lastly don’t use it as an excuse – Ask yourself

whether you need the food, use some will power (even keep a diary to track your intake).

EXERCISE – During the summer we flock to parks and beaches and enjoy walks in the sunshine, but come October and our sofa is the number 1 destination. If we are not out and about, were at home – and that usually means doing activities we associate with eating, such as sitting on the sofa and watching TV. Actions to combat this – Get your exercise when you can, walk at least 10,000 steps daily ( example park further away from work), Get yourself outside whenever you can –  You just need a hat, big jacket, scarf and gloves and you’re good. If you usually exercise outside remember the gym will be nice and dry for you. Alternatively you can workout at home.

I cannot stress enough the importance of maintaining a good fitness regime during winter 👋🏻
